Individual Therapy in Los Angeles, CA

Warm, attuned, empowering care

Feeling like life’s just a little too much lately? You don’t have to carry it all by yourself – there’s support for you right here. Let us help you take the first step on your healing journey.

Starting therapy can feel scary. Especially if you’ve felt dismissed, unseen, or misunderstood before. That’s why at GGPA, we believe that therapy is a relationship that is first and foremost built on trust, presence, and deep care.

Unfortunately, most clients that we see have had experiences of therapy where they felt dismissed, unseen or misunderstood. Maybe you’ve worked with a therapist that spent a lot of time talking about their own personal experiences (rather than yours) and left you feeling like your growth and success was stunted.

We’re not into ‘fixing’ you (because you’re not broken). We’re here to listen closely, reflect honestly, and help you reconnect with your own voice and inner strength.

Our practice is rooted in anti-oppression values, emotional attunement, and cultural humility. Maybe you’re dealing with grief, burnout, trauma, or a feeling you can’t quite name – we hold the space in the room without judgment. Our team brings specialized experience working with Queer, BIPOC, immigrant, and neurodivergent folks, and we’re always learning, unlearning, and showing up for you and your needs.

You’ll find us in East LA and online statewide.

Individual therapy is a space that’s just for you: your thoughts, your feelings, your pace.

It’s where you get to unpack what’s been weighing on you, explore the patterns holding you back, and build new ways of showing up for yourself and others. We will be with you through and give you tools, insight, and a steady, secure relationship with yourself that supports your growth.

Here’s what individual therapy can help with:

Most of all, therapy gives you space to feel, to question, and to grow without being judged or rushed.

  • “I can’t turn my brain off. I’m always anxious.”
  • “I’m tired of pretending I’m okay.”
  • “I don’t even know who I am anymore.”
  • “Everything looks fine on the outside, but inside I feel like a mess.”

What other therapists say

Grazel Garcia has created a comprehensive practice with an important specialization

…treating individuals and couples in the LGBTQIA, BIPOC and neurodiverse communities. These sensitive, skilled clinicians offer a wide range of services and because they have been trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, their focus is attuned and caring. I highly recommend Grazel and her colleagues for all aspects of this very important clinical work.

Grazel is an excellent therapist that I trust wholeheartedly.

She approaches her work with such empathy and also incredible intellect. She is my go-to referral for LGBTQ+ couples and interracial relationships. I could not say enough positive things about her.

Not only have I received supervision from Grazel, but I’ve also worked with members of her team.

Grazel’s team has advanced training in EFT, racial trauma, and multicultural relationships. They also specialize in working with Queer and neurodiverse folx. I can say without a doubt that her clinicians are extremely well supervised and any client at this practice will receive capable, safe, and affirming care.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

At GGPA, we use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) as the foundation of our work with individuals. EFT is a powerful, research-backed approach that helps you explore your emotional experiences with curiosity, not shame.

Rooted in attachment theory, EFT views our emotions as essential guides, not problems to ‘fix.’ Many of us learned to ignore or suppress our feelings in order to survive our childhoods. EFT helps us slow down, tune in, and understand what our emotions are trying to say.

In individual therapy, EFT helps you to recognize the emotional patterns that keep you stuck so you can deepen self-awareness and self-compassion, build secure connections with yourself and others and to heal past emotional wounds.

EFT isn’t about pushing through pain or doing paper exercises, it’s about learning to sit with your emotions safely, and gently creating space for new emotional experiences. It’s deep work, and it’s also profoundly affirming.

You don’t need to have all the words. We’ll help you find them, together.

Your Therapy Journey

When you’re starting individual therapy, chances are you don’t have everything figured out. In fact, most people begin with one simple need: to feel better. It’s helpful to know what to expect before reaching out though, so here’s what the therapy process often looks like at GGPA:

First Sessions:
Building Connection

We begin by exploring your story: what’s bringing you in, what’s felt heavy, and what you hope might shift. There’s no pressure, we just provide a safe space to begin unpacking. We’ll explore your inner world at your own pace and gently peel back the layers of your experience. You’ll start to gain awareness and build trust with your therapist.

Middle Phase:
Emotional Clarity

As trust builds, we’ll gently explore deeper emotional patterns and you’ll learn skills to help you manage your emotions and behaviors more effectively. Through Emotionally Focused Therapy, you’ll start noticing the roots of your feelings and how they show up in your life. As you notice these things, you’ll start to be able to consciously choose to react differently.

Later Phase:
New Ways of Being

You’ll begin responding to yourself and others with more clarity, compassion, and courage. Therapy becomes a place to practice living in alignment with your truth. And eventually you’ll graduate therapy, knowing that you’re equipped with all the skills you need to continue your journey on your own.

Sessions are 50 minutes and usually weekly either in-person at our East LA office or online across California. We also offer 75 or 90-minute sessions. In individual therapy, we start you off weekly and work on titrating your weekly sessions as you see yourself progress.
